With almost 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Philip Barr has developed a medical philosophy that integrates internal medicine and mind/body medicine where he focuses on re-balancing a patient’s health in a proactive manner. Using a team approach, Dr. Barr brings together complementary modalities that address a patient as a “whole person” for optimal health and wellness.
Dr. Barr graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biology. He received honors in family medicine at the University of Maryland, and got his internal medicine training at the University of Massachusetts Hospitals. At Harvard Medical School, Dr. Barr was selected for a prestigious research fellowship in behavioral cardiology and mind/body medicine. He then received a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica and joined the faculty upon graduation.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as Integrative and Holistic Medicine, Dr. Barr’s career has spanned diverse clinical settings. He is currently the lead physician at Duke Integrative Medicine. His book on empowering patients proactively is due for completion by year’s end. The working title is “Coach Your Doctor.”
